UPDATE: JUNE 5, 2022:
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE COLLEGE COMMENCEMENT CEREMONIES IN PAULEY PAVILION IS FOUND ON OUR FAQ PAGE.
WHAT HAPPENS AT THE 2022 COLLEGE COMMENCEMENT CEREMONIES ON FRIDAY, JUNE 10?
[The livestream for each ceremony will be available at https://commencement.ucla.edu]
Graduates must arrive for their ceremony one hour early at the Los Angeles Tennis Center (LATC) on campus, so that they can assemble for the procession. Their procession into Pauley Pavilion will begin 30 minutes before the ceremony start time. The graduates will be guided by volunteers from LATC to Pauley, and they will enter Pauley through the tunnel and sit in chairs on the floor of the arena. The graduates MUST WEAR MASKS that cover their nose and mouth at all times they are inside Pauley Pavilion. There will be no exceptions to this rule. Graduates must remain in their seating area during the ceremony.
Please note: In LATC, graduates will have their student tickets scanned, and they will be checked to be sure they are sober, they are wearing appropriate attire, and they are not bringing anything into Pauley that is not allowed.
Small handbags, purses, and diaper bags are allowed, but bags will be searched by security staff at the door to ensure no outside food, alcohol, or weapons are present. In order to reduce the time to get into the venue, we strongly recommend leaving all bags in cars. Backpacks and duffle bags are not permitted in any venue.
Guests of the graduates should come to campus early and should enter Pauley Pavilion an hour before the ceremony, using their tickets. ALL GUESTS MUST WEAR MASKS while inside Pauley. Please be prepared for road closures and detours — it is wise to come extremely early, to ensure you can park wherever you are directed and can navigate through campus to Pauley (https://map.ucla.edu). It is open seating, and if a guest needs accessible seating, they can request to be guided to that seating when they arrive at Pauley.
Guests will sit in the arena and can watch for their graduates’ arrival through the tunnel. Again, the graduates start arriving through the tunnel 30 minutes before the ceremony.
The ceremony must begin on time (at 11:00 a.m., 3:00 p.m., or 7:00 p.m.), with the Official Party entering the stadium floor and sitting on the stage. The program will include speakers, singers, and opportunities for the graduates to be recognized for their accomplishments, but as groups — such as all Honors students, all students who have conducted research, etc. Graduates, while they are in the graduate seating area, will be asked to stand for a few moments to be cheered. No graduates cross the stage at the College Commencement in Pauley, and no individual students have their name read at this ceremony. Individual recognition of students takes place at the departmental ceremonies. If graduates still need tickets to their departmental ceremony, they need to contact their academic departments directly for assistance.
The Chancellor will confer our graduates’ degrees at this ceremony. Our graduates will turn their tassels and hear the Alma Mater and the UCLA fight song. Then, the graduates will be directed to exit Pauley through the same tunnel they used to enter the stadium.
After the ceremony, graduates and their guests will need to meet at locations away from Pauley Pavilion, so that the venue can be prepared for the next ceremony. Please make a plan and pick a spot to meet up after the event. The farther from the Pauley the better, because of the crowds that will be in the area. We have three ceremonies in a single day for the College of Letters and Science. When your ceremony is finished, other graduates and guests will be approaching Pauley.
The campus commencement website (https://commencement.ucla.edu) has important information for guests posted on their FAQs page:
https://commencement.ucla.edu/commencement-2022-faqs
Please consult that page for information about the COVID policy, parking, bag policy (i.e., whether bags can be brought by guests to events), and other details.
NOTE: You must use your specific ticket for the particular time printed on it — the ceremonies and the tickets are not interchangeable.
UPDATE: MAY 27, 2022:
If you have ordered tickets, you will receive your electronic tickets via email messages from the Central Ticket Office.
- Email messages will arrive at your email address (as it is indicated in MyUCLA) between Tuesday, May 24, and Thursday, June 9, 2022.
- You will receive email messages from tickets@cto.ucla.edu that contain links for you to receive your tickets. You will receive one message per ceremony for each of your graduate tickets and one message per ceremony for your guest tickets. There is no in-person pick-up.
- If MyUCLA says you have picked up your tickets — you haven’t. That message was an error that has been corrected.
- Be sure you check the email account you have in MyUCLA (check every email account you’ve ever told the campus about, to be safe), and check that email account’s spam folder for your ticket messages. Check your spam folder frequently, as you don’t want to miss receiving your tickets. Some email providers empty spam folders regularly.
The Central Ticket Office (CTO) received your ticket information this week. They have alerted the College Commencement Office that they will start sending your ticket email messages shortly. You will receive your tickets in time.

TICKETING PROCESS
First, participate in the Senior Survey.
- It is found on the Campus Life tab of MyUCLA.
Second, submit your time preference for the College Commencement Ceremony.
- Due to the high demand and limited capacity for the three College commencement ceremonies, student preferences will be collected before the ticketing process begins.
- Through MyUCLA submit your time preference Thursday, April 28 – Sunday, May 1 (11:59pm).
- During this period, limits will be placed on the number of students who can access the system simultaneously – you may be placed in a queue while preferences are recorded in an orderly fashion (experience will be similar to systems employed by other ticket sites like Ticketmaster).
- On Thursday, May 5, 2022 after 6:00pm, check your MyUCLA Notices to see if your time preference was available and granted.
Third, place your remaining order for tickets.
- From Friday, May 6, through Friday, May 20, 2022 at 11:59pm, you will be able to order your departmental and Honors ceremony tickets on MyUCLA. If you missed the College preference period, you will be able to order tickets for the College Commencement, too.
- Please note: Each graduate will receive one free graduate ticket and up to four free guest tickets for the College Commencement Ceremony in Pauley. A lottery will determine whether graduates receive any of the additional free tickets they request, given space available in Pauley. For departmental ceremonies, depending on the ceremony, each graduate will receive a free graduate ticket and up to four free guest tickets. If space is available to distribute additional guest tickets, these additional guest tickets at the departmental ceremonies will cost $20 each. Please check with your departments regarding the particulars of these ceremonies.
Fourth, receive your electronic tickets via email messages from the Central Ticket Office.
- For example, if you plan to attend the College Commencement Ceremony in Pauley and your departmental ceremony, you will receive a total of four email messages with links for you to claim your tickets. One message with the link to your College Commencement graduate ticket, one message with the link to your College Commencement guest tickets, one message with the link to your departmental ceremony graduate ticket, and one message with the link to your departmental ceremony guest tickets.
- Be sure you check the email account you have in MyUCLA, and check that email account’s spam folder for your ticket messages. Check your spam folder frequently, as you don’t want to miss receiving your tickets. Some email providers empty spam folders regularly.
Fifth, pay for your tickets through the billing process.
- Charges for tickets are assessed when the order is placed in MyUCLA and processed through your BruinBill. Once a wait list request has been approved and processed, it becomes a billable order.
- Once ordered, students are charged for guest tickets and parking permits whether or not they are picked up. NO refunds are issued.
- Charges related to Commencement events will be posted to your BruinBill.
- Charges for any late orders will also be posted to your BruinBill.
PARKING
All commencement parking information is found here.
YOUR NAME, PRIVACY, AND THE DIGITAL PROGRAM
We recognize how important it is for your name to be correct in our records and for commencement.
Instructions for how to configure your privacy settings so that your name can appear in the digital program can be found here. Please note two things: 1) The average Bruin does not have a Public Info or full FERPA block, so you may not need to take any action (but you can follow the directions about privacy settings to check on your status); 2) If/when you update your privacy options (if you need to), it is not in real time; the system is not broken because you can’t move forward immediately — estimates are that it seems to take 2-3 hours for updates to be recognized for the verify name page.
Your name being read when you cross the stage at the departmental ceremony will occur because you write your name on a card and hand it to the name reader, which indicates your consent for your name to be read. No names are read at the College Commencement Ceremonies in Pauley Pavilion.
Legal name changes for your diploma do not need to be handled in person. You can pursue them online using this link.
